OUR STORY
Founded in 2016 by Fort Wayne native and professional theatre artist and educator Andy Planck, Three Rivers Music Theatre was created with a bold vision: to tell stories that were not being told in our community and to create a space where diverse voices, perspectives, and experiences could be seen, heard, and celebrated. From its earliest productions, the organization has been committed to producing theatre that engages, inspires, entertains, and challenges audiences through intentional programming in a diverse and encouraging environment. At its core, Three Rivers Music Theatre believes that amplifying underrepresented stories is essential to a vibrant cultural conversation and a thriving arts community.
Today, TRMT has grown into one of Northeast Indiana’s most dynamic arts organizations, known for fearless storytelling, innovative productions, and a welcoming creative home for artists and audiences alike. Our work is guided by a deep commitment to IDEAA principles: Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access, and Anti-Racism. We strive to ensure that every artist and audience member feels valued and represented in the stories that unfold on our stage.
Beyond the stage, Three Rivers Music Theatre has become a powerful training ground for the next generation of artists. Our thriving educational programs, including our highly regarded College Audition Program, help prepare young performers for professional and collegiate opportunities in the performing arts. The results speak for themselves: our program has achieved a 100% placement rate, with students gaining admission to some of the nation’s most prestigious university theatre programs. The impact of that training extends far beyond Fort Wayne. Today, TRMT alumni are working artists across the country and around the world, performing and creating in cities such as New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Tokyo, and London.
At its heart, Three Rivers Music Theatre is more than a theatre company. It is a creative home, a training ground, and a gathering place for bold ideas and courageous storytelling. Each season, we bring together artists, audiences, educators, and community partners to experience the transformative power of live performance. Through the support of local businesses and community partners, we are able to continue expanding our reach, empowering artists, and ensuring that Fort Wayne remains a place where innovative, inclusive theatre thrives.

CASTING PHILOSOPHY
TRMT IS INTENSELY AND INTENTIONALLY COMMITTED TO THE IDEAA PRINCIPLES — INCLUSION, DIVERSITY, EQUITY, ACCESS, AND ANTI-RACISM.
GENDER IDENTITY
Most characters encountered in theatrical works are on the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns, and you may see that in the character descriptions for our full musical productions. Limiting as the descriptions may be, our casting seeks to be inclusive as possible. We invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary artists to submit for the roles with which they most identify.
RACE/ETHNICITY
We will list race/ethnicity when specific and necessary to the character. When race/ethnicity is non-specific, we are committed to welcoming and considering all races and ethnicities in our casting. We are painfully aware that most theatrical productions of the last 100+ years have been whitewashed, and artists of color often disengaged or excluded unless necessary to the story. TRMT seeks to correct that narrative in our community. Artists of color will be considered for ALL roles, unless race/ethnicity is specific and necessary to the character/plot.
BODY TYPE
Artists of all body types are encouraged to audition. Unless a role demands a specific body type (ex: Tracy in HAIRSPRAY), all body types will be considered for all roles. GONE ARE THE DAYS of antiquated and archaic (unachievable/unsustainable) beauty standards pressuring creators to produce bland, homogenous, uninspired, unrelatable, sterile, cookie cutter stories. Every body is a theatre body. Everybody is the lead role in their own story. All body types have occupied spaces power, achievement, and romance since time began. It’s time for our stories to reflect that. Period.
ACCESSIBILITY
Three Rivers Music Theatre is committed to considering and welcoming disabled and neurodivergent artists. As such, TRMT is committed to occupying accessible ADA compliant spaces whenever possible. Human experiences curated in theatrical works are universal — that’s what makes theatre and stories accessible and broadly appealing. It’s time that our stories reflected all points of view and perspectives.
Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or if there are any accommodations we can provide.
